The Chelsea goalkeeper, Emi Martinez, might make a remarkable early return from his broken jaw, providing a significant boost for the Blues.
The Argentine World Cup champion has been out of action since sustaining the serious injury during Chelsea’s 2-0 win over Everton on October 17.
Martinez, now aged 34, had to leave the field following a clash with Everton defender Jarrad Branthwaite at the Hill Dickinson Stadium.
The former Aston Villa player underwent surgery and initially indicated a lengthy recovery period.
Nevertheless, The Athletic reports that there is increasing optimism surrounding Martinez’s potential return ahead of schedule.
He is said to have been consulting with a specialist about acquiring a protective mask to expedite his recovery.

However, it remains uncertain when he will be ready to return to competitive play.
The possibility of Martinez returning early is a welcome relief for Chelsea, who have struggled without their primary goalkeeper.
During Martinez’s absence, 21-year-old Belgian goalkeeper Mike Penders has taken over the role.
Penders stepped in for Martinez against Everton before making his first Premier League start last weekend against Tottenham.

Unfortunately, it was a challenging day for the young keeper, as he was responsible for Spurs’ opening goal during a 2-0 defeat at Stamford Bridge.
He did show improvement in performance against Liverpool during Wednesday’s Carabao Cup match.
However, his efforts were insufficient to keep Chelsea from being eliminated from the competition following a penalty shootout.
Martinez’s return could result in Penders being benched once more as the Blues aim to regain momentum this season.
The Argentine joined Chelsea in August after completing a £7.5 million transfer from Aston Villa.
So far, he has participated in six matches for the club, achieving only one clean sheet — in the game against Everton where he got injured.
Chelsea currently sits fifth in the Premier League, having won four of their first eight matches.
They are set to host Manchester United at Stamford Bridge on Saturday, seeking to rebound from their recent challenges.
