BRIAN BROBBEY is returning from his hamstring injury — just in time for a struggling Sunderland.
The Black Cats are making the long journey south to Bournemouth this Sunday, eager to end their slide in the Premier League after three consecutive defeats.
Manager Regis Le Bris is optimistic that the return of his Dutch powerhouse will inject the necessary firepower to change their fortunes.
Legendary Premier League striker Jimmy-Floyd Hasselbaink believes Brobbey is an exceptional asset — even if fans in the Netherlands might not fully recognize his talent.
While Dutch fans may long for the elegant styles of Dennis Bergkamp, Marco van Basten, or Patrick Kluivert, Hasselbaink argues that Sunderland’s standout player brings a far more impactful presence.
The former Leeds, Chelsea, and Middlesbrough forward, who netted 127 goals across 288 Premier League appearances, told SunSport exclusively via MrQ, “Brobbey reminds me a bit of myself.

“He’s not being fully appreciated due to his more physical style. However, the Dutch are somewhat spoiled with attacking talents.
“Brobbey is completely different. Dutch fans need to adjust to this reality; they often compare everything to Van Basten, Kluivert, and Bergkamp.
“Brobbey is doing outstandingly well for Sunderland. He excels in his role.
“He’s a unique talent, a different type of footballer. He has truly worked hard to reach this level.”

Although Brobbey may be undervalued in his home country, he is revered on Wearside.
At just 24, he achieved legendary status with a last-minute winner against North East rivals Newcastle and capped an impressive debut season in England by leading the Black Cats into the Europa League.
Last month, he was unstoppable, scoring a hat-trick in a thrilling 5-3 loss to Manchester City before his hamstring injury on September 24 during an international match against Germany halted his momentum.
Sunderland struggled to make an impact against Brighton last week, suffering a 2-0 defeat at home. However, Brobbey made a return to the bench for Thursday’s 2-1 victory against Portuguese side Torreense.
Wilson Isidor missed the midweek match and remains a doubt for the clash with the Cherries, having sustained an undisclosed injury against the Seagulls.
However, Le Bris confirmed that Brobbey is fit and ready to go, poised to make an impact today at The Vitality.
Hasselbaink, aged 54, believes Brobbey’s return will significantly uplift the entire team. The only concern is that top clubs might express interest if the forward resumes his form from before his injury.
Hasselbaink remarked: “We should not solely focus on Brobbey’s scoring because what he excels at is holding up the ball.”
“He consistently outmuscles centre-halves, regardless of their size. He’s excellent at maintaining possession and involving his teammates in play.
“For Sunderland, this is incredibly beneficial as it helps them transition out of their half.
“Other teams, like Manchester United, might not favor this approach. However, if he can work effectively near the opponent’s box, he has the potential to cause significant problems.”
United and Bayern Munich have both shown interest in Brobbey, and Hasselbaink added, “This is simply how football operates.
“If he continues to score like he has been, it will become increasingly difficult for Sunderland to retain him.”
