Amakhosi approached the match keen to end their winless streak, having last celebrated a victory on 6 September against Siwelele in the Betway Premiership. Since that triumph, the Soweto giants have struggled to find their rhythm, registering a series of draws.
Emulating their midweek formation against Stellenbosch FC, Chiefs deployed a cautious lineup featuring six natural defenders along with holding midfielder Sibongiseni Mthethwa. However, this conservative strategy yielded little as the Chiefs had difficulty crafting significant scoring opportunities.
Red Arrows took advantage in the 75th minute when attacking midfielder Alassane Diarra broke through with a free header. Completely unmarked in the penalty area, Diarra confidently directed a corner delivery past the keeper, securing the victory for the home team.
Following this away defeat, Chiefs must now bounce back as they prepare to host Red Arrows for the critical return leg next Friday, 23 October, at Moses Mabhida Stadium.
Amakhosi must secure a solid victory in the home leg to overcome the aggregate deficit and achieve qualification for the CAF Confederation Cup group stage.
