RICHARDS Bay coach Dimitar Nikolaev Pantev knows there is no time to waste.
The Bulgarian has taken on the tough job at the Natal Rich Boyz, but says he’s ready for the fight as he tries to guide the club through a difficult spell.
Pantev, appointed in September 2026 on a one-year deal with an option of a renewal, faces an early test when Richards Bay meet Sekhukhune United in the Carling Knockout Cup.
For Bay, this is not just another cup game. It’s a chance to end their poor run, rebuild confidence and give their new coach a positive start.
Big opportunity, tough challenge
Pantev said the job was an important step in his career, but he knew it came with pressure.
“This is a big opportunity for me, but also a challenge. I hope my time here will be successful. Step by step, I’m trying to adapt my philosophy, and I believe we will continue to improve,” Pantev said.
The coach arrived mid-season, making his task even harder.
He admitted it had not been easy to make quick changes, especially with a young squad whose confidence had been hurt by poor results.
Rebuilding the players’ confidence
We’re still in the process, so it’s not easy for me or the players during this period because it is difficult to change everything in the middle of the season.
“We’re also going through a difficult period, with some bad results in a row, and most of our squad consists of young players. We will try to help them recover psychologically and prepare them for the next match,” he said.
Pantev knows the Sekhukhune clash could be a turning point if his players show determination and belief.
A strong cup performance wouldn’t solve every problem, but it could give Bay a boost as their new coach works towards better results.
