“No Room for Defeat” – Miguel Asserts Chiefs Will Overcome CAF Shortfall

Kaizer Chiefs defender Inacio Miguel has reassured Amakhosi supporters that the team is determined to reverse their first-leg setback against Zambian club Red Arrows and advance to the group stage of the CAF Confederation Cup at Moses Mabhida Stadium this Friday night.

Amakhosi will be hosting Kalilo Kakonke’s team amidst significant pressure in Durban after suffering a 1-0 defeat in the preliminary round first leg in Zambia last weekend.

Qualifying for the group stage—similar to their continental campaign last season—is crucial for the Chiefs as they aim to satisfy a discontent fanbase.

Despite remaining unbeaten in the Betway Premiership this season, Chiefs’ recent form has dipped, with the team struggling to secure a win in their last four matches across all competitions.

In spite of this downturn, Miguel answered questions about the importance of the upcoming match with confidence.

“I’m not even contemplating a loss on Friday,” Miguel stated confidently.

“We are not thinking about losing; I cannot entertain something that will not happen. My mindset is solely focused on winning the match.”

Head coach Fernando da Cruz has been under increasing scrutiny regarding his tactical approach and communication, with critics questioning his use of an interpreter during team meetings and media interactions.

Nonetheless, Miguel—who had previously quashed suggestions that tactics were being miscommunicated—conceded that the team is going through a challenging phase, but affirmed it is just a temporary situation.

“For us at the club, there is no decline,” Miguel asserted.

“We are focused on keeping a positive outlook and facing reality. It’s clear that we are not in our best moment; this is just a phase. However, we are aware of our situation.

“If we allow ourselves to dwell in negativity, things will deteriorate. I respect everyone’s perspective; we recognize the need to work, unite, and overcome this challenge.

“But I assure you, there is no decline, and I’m unsure why that narrative is being pushed, as this is merely a phase.

“Every season has its ups and downs, and our concentration is not on the negatives; rather, it’s on finding ways to navigate through this.

“Our only goal is to step onto the pitch, fight hard, and return with a win on Friday.”
