Bayer Leverkusen coach Carles Martínez says Victor Boniface could be involved when Freiburg visit the BayArena on Sunday, with the club short of options in attack because of injuries.
The Super Eagles forward has had a challenging opening to the season since returning from his loan period at Werder Bremen. His only appearance so far came against SV Elversberg.
Boniface was introduced after the interval in Leverkusen’s first game of the campaign and spent only five minutes on the pitch in their 3-2 loss away from home.
The 25-year-old displayed his disappointment during the recent game against Mainz, heading straight to the changing room after remaining unused throughout the match.
However, Martínez has indicated that Boniface is an option for the Freiburg fixture after Martin Terrier and Christian Kofane sustained injuries.
“We still have Patrik Schick and Boni, Victor Boniface, available as strikers,” Martínez said at his pre-match media briefing.
“There are also other solutions these days. We have plenty of attacking players within the squad.”
The former Union Saint-Gilloise forward will be hoping for a chance against Freiburg and an opportunity to demonstrate his ability to the Leverkusen manager.
