Stellenbosch FC booked their place in the Carling Knockout Cup quarterfinals with a 2-0 victory over Durban City at Chatsworth Stadium on Wednesday night.

Sinoxolo Kwayiba broke the deadlock in the 84th minute, scoring his third goal of the season, before completing his brace in second-half stoppage time to seal Stellenbosch’s progression to the last eight.

Kwayiba has now scored in back-to-back matches across all competitions, providing a timely boost for Stellenbosch as they continue their cup campaign.

The victory also marked Stellenbosch’s first win over Durban City in four meetings between the sides. Their previous three encounters had all ended in draws.

Following the match, the draw for the Carling Knockout quarter-finals took place, producing four intriguing encounters.

Defending champions Orlando Pirates will host Sekhukhune United in a repeat meeting between the sides, having already faced them three times this season and won on each occasion.

The Buccaneers will be aiming to maintain that record as they continue their pursuit of another Carling Knockout title.

Stellenbosch, who won the competition in 2023, will welcome AmaZulu FC after securing their quarterfinal berth with a victory over Durban City.

Meanwhile, Kaizer Chiefs will host Siwelele FC, who booked their place in the last eight by defeating Polokwane City.

The other quarter-final will see Mamelodi Sundowns take on Lamontville Golden Arrows in a repeat of their MTN8 semi-final clash earlier this season.

With a place in the semi-finals at stake, the quarter-final ties promise plenty of intrigue as the remaining teams battle for one of South African football’s major domestic cup honours.
