BOMBSHELL! Luc Eymael Reveals What He Told Yanga Boss After Mngqithi’s Shock Sacking
SOUTH AFRICAN FOOTBALL NEWS | 26 OCTOBER 2026
Former Young Africans SC head coach Luc Eymael has revealed what he told the Tanzanian club’s vice-chairman following the shock dismissal of South African tactician Manqoba Mngqithi.
Mngqithi’s sudden departure has sent shockwaves through African football, particularly because he had delivered encouraging results during his short spell in charge of the Dar es Salaam giants.
Young Africans, popularly known as Yanga, officially terminated Mngqithi’s contract on Saturday, 24 October 2026, following a goalless draw against TRA United in the Tanzanian Premier League. The club also parted ways with first-team conditioning coach Tshephang “Chyna” Mokaila.
According to reports, Eymael spoke to Yanga’s leadership after learning that Mngqithi had been dismissed. The Belgian coach, who previously managed the Tanzanian club, reportedly expressed his views about the decision during his conversation with the vice-chairman.
The development has raised questions about the pressure facing coaches at one of Tanzania’s biggest football institutions, where expectations remain extremely high.
Eymael Reacts to Mngqithi’s Departure
Eymael’s comments are significant because he understands the demands of working at Yanga, a club with an ambitious supporter base and a strong desire to dominate domestic football while competing against Africa’s leading teams.
Mngqithi arrived at the club in July 2026 after leaving South African football, bringing considerable experience from his time at Mamelodi Sundowns and Golden Arrows.
His appointment was expected to strengthen Yanga’s ambitions in the domestic league and the CAF Champions League.
Despite his departure, the South African coach leaves behind several notable achievements. He guided the club to the Tanzanian Community Shield title after defeating arch-rivals Simba SC 1-0 and secured qualification for the CAF Champions League group stage.
Yanga also recorded an emphatic 8-1 aggregate victory over Madagascar’s CFFA during the continental qualifying rounds.
However, the club’s recent domestic results increased the pressure on the technical team. A 2-1 defeat to Simba was followed by the draw against TRA United, leaving Yanga five points behind their rivals in the league standings.
The club’s leadership ultimately decided to make a change rather than continue with Mngqithi in charge.
