Joseph Sibiya Names Tshegofatso Mabasa as the Missing Piece in Mamelodi Sundowns’ Squad

As the South African powerhouses keep pushing for local and continental glory, former Mamelodi Sundowns goalie Joseph Sibiya thinks Tshegofatso Mabasa might round out their star-studded roster.

According to Sibiya, Sundowns might use a striker who can provide their forward line a new dimension to increase their attacking options. The club already has a great roster of excellent players, but the former custodian thinks Mabasa might add some extra something to the mix.

After a long run of success in the Premier Soccer League and across Africa, Mamelodi Sundowns have solidified their position as a football powerhouse in South Africa. Famous for attracting some of the best players in the country and playing a technical brand of possession football, the club has a stellar reputation.

Even with a roster full of A-listers, it's not certain that every position will be filled. Consistent success requires teams to strike a balance between offensive efficiency, defensive steadiness, midfield dominance, and creativity.

Former Orlando Pirates player Mabasa is renowned for creating scoring chances and finishing them off inside the penalty area. Every time the topic of bolstering South African football's attacking departments comes up, people talk about his skills as a center-forward.

How well his game meshes with Sundowns' strategy will determine his suitability for the club. Quick combinations, mobility in the final third, and savvy positioning are often the means by which the club breaks down opposition defences. An additional useful alternative could be a striker with good running ability, defender-occupying skills, and the ability to finish chances.

A team full of imaginative and technically talented players needs a dependable goalscorer, as Sibiya pointed out. Sundowns have a number of offensive weapons at their disposal, but if they added a striker with a different profile, the coaching staff would have more options when playing teams who defend deep or set up to minimise scoring chances.

Sundowns fans will probably start debating whether Mabasa has what it takes to elevate an already formidable team after hearing the notion. If the club were to consider him for a transfer, his background in South African football might be an asset.

But rather than confirming a transfer, Sibiya's evaluation is just an opinion regarding what Sundowns would need. Without additional details, we cannot say whether Mabasa will remain a club player.
