Peter Ndlovu Is Back: Ex-Sundowns Icon Handed Firefighting Job After Head Coach Sacked Instantly

Scottland FC Sack Norman Mapeza After CAF Champions League Heartbreak as Peter Ndlovu Steps In

Scottland FC have parted ways with head coach Norman Mapeza following their disappointing exit from the CAF Champions League, with former Mamelodi Sundowns star Peter Ndlovu appointed as interim coach for the remainder of the 2026 season.

The decision comes after the Zimbabwean champions suffered a dramatic collapse against Angolan giants Petro de Luanda in the second preliminary round of Africa’s premier club competition.

According to reports by FARPost, Scottland have decided to make changes to their technical team after failing to capitalise on a promising first-leg result. The club had taken a commanding 2-0 advantage into the return fixture but ultimately crashed out after suffering a 3-0 defeat in Angola, losing the tie 3-2 on aggregate.

The elimination represents a significant setback for Scottland, who had invested heavily in strengthening their squad ahead of their debut appearance in the continental competition. Expectations were high that the club could challenge for a place in the group stages after assembling a squad featuring several experienced players, including former Betway Premiership stars.

However, their failure to protect the first-leg advantage has reportedly forced the club's leadership to reconsider its technical direction.

Ndlovu handed crucial responsibility

Ndlovu, who previously served as Scottland's team manager, has now been entrusted with the responsibility of guiding the team through the remainder of the campaign.

The former Zimbabwe international is widely recognised for his distinguished playing career, which included a memorable spell at Mamelodi Sundowns. He also captained Zimbabwe's national team and holds a CAF A coaching licence.

His appointment provides Scottland with an experienced football figure who understands the club's internal environment and the expectations surrounding its ambitious project.

Ndlovu's immediate priority will be to restore confidence within the squad and ensure that the Champions League disappointment does not derail their domestic ambitions.

Scottland have also experienced difficulties in their pursuit of silverware at home, having been eliminated from the Chibuku Super Cup and fallen behind in the league title race.

The reigning Zimbabwean champions are now under pressure to finish the season strongly, with crucial league fixtures still to come.

Mapeza's departure signals major change

Mapeza leaves after being entrusted with leading Scottland's ambitious project following his arrival from FC Platinum. His departure, alongside members of his technical team, signals a significant change in direction for the club.

While Ndlovu is expected to take charge temporarily, Scottland's management will need to consider its long-term coaching plans.

For now, the former Sundowns favourite faces a demanding assignment: stabilising the team, rebuilding momentum and keeping Scottland competitive as the 2026 season approaches its conclusion.
