Zwane’s Clarion Call To AmaZulu Ahead Of Carling Cup Opener

AmaZulu head coach Arthur Zwane has called on his players to stay sharp and focused as they prepare for their Carling Knockout opener against Kruger United. Usuthu travel to Mbombela Stadium this weekend for a Round of 16 clash, carrying strong league form into the cup competition.

The Durban side have been flying in the Betway Premiership. Four straight league wins against Richards Bay, Marumo Gallants, Polokwane City and Durban City have lifted them to third place. They sit on 19 points from eight matches, with six wins, one draw and one defeat. This run has given the team real confidence heading into the knockout stage.

Last season’s Carling Knockout campaign ended in disappointment for Usuthu. They went out at the same stage after a 3-2 defeat to Magesi. The players and coaching staff are determined to go further this time and avoid another early exit. Zwane wants his team to use their current momentum and show they can compete on all fronts.

Kruger United, who are in their first season in the top flight, sit 12th on the log with seven points from eight games. This will be the first competitive meeting between the two clubs. Although AmaZulu hold a clear advantage on paper, Zwane is not taking anything for granted.

“They’ve also been unfortunate not to grab more points in other games, and we will have to be at our best against them as always,” the coach said. He pointed out that Kruger have already shown they can beat quality opposition, including a win over TS Galaxy. In a knockout tournament, one poor performance can end a team’s hopes immediately.

AmaZulu’s strong start has also raised hopes of a better finish than last season, when they placed fourth. Zwane has spoken about the group’s growth and their desire to push for continental football next year. However, he continues to stress the need for consistency and respect for every opponent.

The match offers Usuthu a chance to build on their league success and chase silverware. With Zwane’s clear message to his squad, the focus remains on delivering a professional performance and avoiding the slip that could undo their good work. Supporters will be watching closely as AmaZulu try to turn their league form into cup progress.
