Kaizer Chiefs Respond To Mngqithi Links After His Yanga Exit

Kaizer Chiefs have dismissed reports linking experienced South African coach Manqoba Mngqithi with a possible move to Naturena, insisting that claims suggesting he is set to join the Soweto giants are false.

Chiefs sporting director Kaizer Motaung Jr. addressed the speculation directly, describing the reports as “completely lies”. His comments come after Mngqithi parted ways with Tanzanian club Young Africans, prompting speculation about his next coaching destination.

Mngqithi is currently without a club following his departure from Yanga, but there has been no official indication that Chiefs are considering appointing him. Motaung Jr.’s firm response makes it clear that the club is rejecting the latest claims linking the former Mamelodi Sundowns coach with a move to Naturena.

The rumours have attracted attention because of Chiefs’ recent struggles and their disappointing exit from the CAF Confederation Cup. Questions have been raised about the club’s technical direction, with some supporters wondering whether management could consider making changes to the coaching department.

However, Chiefs have publicly backed their current head coach, Fernando Da Cruz, despite the pressure surrounding the team’s performances. The club’s support for Da Cruz suggests that management remains committed to giving him an opportunity to improve results rather than rushing into a coaching change.

Mngqithi’s availability has nevertheless fuelled discussions about a possible return to South African football. The experienced tactician has built a strong reputation through his work in the domestic game, particularly during his time at Sundowns, where he was involved in the club’s success before taking up opportunities elsewhere.

The coach previously claimed that someone had blocked an opportunity for him to join Chiefs. Those remarks have resurfaced following his departure from Yanga, adding another layer to the discussion surrounding his relationship with the Soweto club.

Despite that history, his previous comments do not confirm that negotiations are taking place or that Chiefs intend to appoint him.

For now, Motaung Jr.’s denial remains the clearest indication of the club’s position. Unless Chiefs or Mngqithi announce otherwise, reports linking the coach to Naturena remain speculation, while Da Cruz continues to receive the club’s public backing.
