Manchester City continued their impressive start to the Premier League season after defeating Ipswich Town 3-2 on Saturday, October 17, 2026. Erling Haaland scored twice to help City secure their seventh consecutive league victory and maintain their 100 per cent record.
The Norwegian striker was once again the difference-maker for City, delivering an important performance in a closely contested match at the Etihad Stadium. His goals helped the home side recover from a brief setback and secure all three points.
City started the match strongly and took the lead in the 19th minute through Phil Foden, who finished from close range after a good pass from Jérémy Doku.
However, Ipswich responded quickly, with Daizen Maeda finding the back of the net in the 21st minute to make it 1-1. The visitors showed determination and made life difficult for the Premier League leaders.
Haaland restored City's advantage in the 34th minute after taking advantage of a good attacking move involving Mateo Kovacic. His goal gave the hosts a 2-1 lead heading into halftime.
City continued to push forward after the break, looking to extend their advantage and put the game beyond Ipswich's reach. Haaland delivered again in the 69th minute, scoring his second goal of the afternoon to make it 3-1.
The goal was particularly significant because it brought Haaland to 100 non-penalty goals in the Premier League in just 139 appearances, making him the fastest player in the competition's history to reach that milestone.
Ipswich refused to give up and continued searching for a way back into the match. Their efforts were rewarded in stoppage time when Zian Flemming converted a penalty to reduce the deficit to 3-2.
The late goal created a tense finish, but City held on to claim another valuable victory. The result extended their winning run to seven matches and kept them at the top of the Premier League table.
Despite the victory, there was concern for City after Haaland appeared to be struggling with an injury at the final whistle. The striker left the pitch limping, although manager Enzo Maresca said he hoped the problem was not serious.
The win also marked a historic achievement for Maresca, who became the first manager to win his opening seven Premier League matches in charge of a club.
For Manchester City, the result was another demonstration of their attacking quality and determination. Haaland's record-breaking achievement added further significance to the victory, although the club will be hoping his apparent injury does not affect their upcoming fixtures.
