The Buccaneers faced Kruger United hoping to bounce back from a 2-1 defeat against Siwelele last weekend. Unfortunately for Pirates, they were held to a 1-1 draw, preventing them from returning to winning form.
Pirates initially took the lead in the 30th minute with a goal from Thurston Phillips, but their advantage was short-lived as Ayabulele Magidigidi equalised for Kruger United in the 40th minute.
As a result of the draw, the defending champions are currently in eighth place on the league table, having gathered only four points from their first four matches this season.
In contrast, Sundowns continued their strong performance, securing a 2-1 victory over TS Galaxy. This match marked the first defeat for the Rockets this season, and Sundowns became the first team to find the back of the net against them in the league.
Sundowns opened the scoring in the 30th minute with a goal from Simphiwe Mlondo, but Galaxy quickly equalised in the 39th minute through Siyanda Xulu.
Ultimately, Mlondo made the difference, scoring again in the 68th minute to secure the win for Sundowns.
This win pushed Sundowns up to fourth place in the standings with nine points from four matches, boasting three wins and one loss so far this season.
In other games on Sunday, Milford and Durban City ended in a goalless draw during the KwaZulu-Natal derby at Sugar Ray Xulu Stadium.
The two-time DStv Diski Challenge champions Stellenbosch FC also had to settle for a draw, finishing 0-0 against Siwelele at Idas Valley Stadium.
