South Africa’s national U15 team returned to winning ways in impressive fashion after recording a 13-1 victory over Anguilla in their third group match at the inaugural FIFA U15 Boys World Cup and Festival in Baku, Azerbaijan, on Sunday..
Coach Selekedi Mogale’s side produced an outstanding attacking display to recover from their 2-1 defeat against Kosovo earlier in the day. The young South African players responded positively to that setback, showing their ability to create scoring opportunities and finish them in front of goal.
South Africa had made a strong start to the tournament with an 8-0 victory over the Maldives U15 team in their opening match. However, the defeat against Kosovo meant they needed to bounce back quickly to maintain their momentum in the competition.
The young Mzansi side delivered a convincing response against Anguilla, taking control of the match and scoring five goals in the first half to establish a 5-1 lead at the break.
Mogale’s players continued to attack after half-time, adding more goals as Anguilla struggled to contain their opponents. South Africa eventually secured a 13-1 victory, giving the team an important confidence boost ahead of their remaining group matches.
Tshiamo Mashishi and Camden Schaper were the standout performers, with both players scoring hat-tricks. Katlego Mokhabuki and Lesedi Hlalele also made significant contributions by scoring two goals each.
Neo Dhlamini, Bohlale Finger and Keanu Moses completed the list of scorers with one goal apiece. Their contributions helped South Africa produce one of the most impressive attacking performances of their campaign so far.
Mashishi had also played an important role in the opening victory over the Maldives, scoring twice in the 8-0 result. Moses, Finger, Reatlegile Mosimane, Hlalele, Tumelo Moerane and Inganathi Saliwa also found the net in that match.
South Africa will now turn their attention to their final two group-stage fixtures, which are scheduled for Monday. Mogale’s team will face Estonia at 09:30 South African time before taking on France at 16:15.
The two matches will provide another test for the young South African players as they look to finish the group stage strongly. After scoring 21 goals in their opening three matches, the team will hope to carry their attacking form into the remaining fixtures and continue making progress at the tournament.
