Kaizer Chiefs Respond To Mngqithi Links After His Yanga Exit

Kaizer Chiefs have dismissed reports linking Manqoba Mngqithi with a move to Naturena following his departure from Tanzanian club Young Africans, insisting that suggestions he is set to join the Soweto giants are untrue.

Chiefs sporting director Kaizer Motaung Jr. responded directly to the speculation, describing the reports as “completely lies”. His statement comes after Mngqithi’s exit from Yanga prompted fresh discussion about where the experienced South African coach could continue his career.

Mngqithi remains unattached following his stint with the Tanzanian side, but there has been no confirmation from Chiefs that they intend to appoint him. Motaung Jr.’s response makes clear that the club is rejecting the current claims linking the coach to a move to Naturena.

The rumours have emerged at a time when Chiefs have publicly backed their current coach, Fernando Da Cruz, following the team’s exit from the CAF Confederation Cup. That support has added context to the speculation, with questions being raised about whether the club could consider a coaching change.

However, the club’s response indicates that the reports about Mngqithi joining Chiefs should not be treated as a confirmed development.

Mngqithi has previously spoken about an earlier opportunity to join the Soweto club, claiming a few months ago that someone had blocked his move to Chiefs in the past. That statement has resurfaced in discussions about his future following his departure from Yanga.

The coach has built a reputation in South African football through his work with domestic clubs, and his next appointment is likely to attract attention while he remains available. Nevertheless, his previous comments about Chiefs do not establish that a new agreement is being considered.

For now, the key development is Chiefs’ denial of the latest reports. The club has backed Da Cruz after the continental disappointment, while Mngqithi’s immediate plans remain unclear.

Until either side announces a concrete development, claims that the former Yanga coach is heading to Naturena remain speculation rather than a confirmed appointment.
