The Untold Story Behind Sundowns’ Shock New Signing

New Sundowns Signing Lazola Maku Gets CAF Champions League Boost

New Sundowns Signing Lazola Maku Gets CAF Champions League Boost

Mamelodi Sundowns have received a boost following the arrival of highly rated South African midfielder Lazola Maku, who will be eligible to feature for the Tshwane giants in the CAF Champions League once the group stages get underway.

The 19-year-old has officially joined the reigning African champions after leaving Betway Premiership side Siwelele FC at the end of last season. His arrival adds another promising young talent to a Sundowns squad that continues to compete for domestic and continental honours.

According to reports, Maku will be available for continental selection when the group stage of the CAF Champions League begins, giving head coach Miguel Cardoso another option as the Brazilians pursue further success in Africa.

Maku Begins New Chapter at Chloorkop

Sundowns officially announced the midfielder's signing on Tuesday, 20 October 2026, welcoming the youngster to the club as they look to strengthen their squad for the challenges ahead.

Maku had been without a club following the expiration of his contract with Siwelele, making the move to Chloorkop an important opportunity to continue his development at one of South Africa's biggest football clubs.

His arrival has attracted attention because of his impressive performances at youth international level, where he has established himself as one of the country's promising midfield prospects.

However, securing a place in Sundowns' star-studded team will not be straightforward. The midfielder will need to impress the technical team and demonstrate that he can compete at the highest level.

Amajita Captain Brings Winning Experience

Maku arrives at Sundowns with valuable experience gained while representing South Africa's national youth teams.

He was part of the Amajita squad that won the 2025 Under-20 Africa Cup of Nations in Egypt, where South Africa defeated Morocco 1-0 in the final to claim the continental title.

His performances during the tournament earned him recognition among the competition's outstanding players, highlighting his potential and ability to perform under pressure.

The midfielder also captained Amajita during the 2026 COSAFA Under-20 Championship, leading the national side to regional success in Mozambique.

These achievements underline the qualities that could make him an exciting prospect for Sundowns as they prepare for another demanding continental campaign.

Sundowns Eye Further African Success

The Brazilians will be hoping to make the most of their continental experience as they target another successful CAF Champions League campaign.

Having Maku available for the group stages could provide Cardoso with additional depth, although his involvement will ultimately depend on selection, registration requirements and his adaptation to the team.

For the young midfielder, joining Sundowns represents a significant step forward in his career.

With opportunities to compete for major honours and learn alongside experienced players, Maku will be eager to prove his worth and establish himself at Chloorkop.

Sundowns supporters will now be watching closely to see whether the promising midfielder can translate his impressive youth international performances into success at club level.
