Mamelodi Sundowns head coach Miguel Cardoso has provided an update on Teboho Mokoena’s injury, explaining that the midfielder is dealing with an existing problem involving the ligament on the inside of his knee.
Cardoso revealed that the injury is not a new one, as Mokoena had already experienced the issue while on international duty with the South African national team.
Speaking about the midfielder’s condition, the Sundowns coach indicated that the problem was not considered serious and expressed confidence that the player would recover quickly.
“The injury for Teboho is not a new one, it’s the same. It means that he had a situation in the national team.
“He had a stretch on the inside ligament. It’s good it’s not a big thing, it will be overcome very, very quickly,” Cardoso said.
The update will come as encouraging news for Mamelodi Sundowns supporters, particularly given Mokoena’s importance to the team’s midfield. The South African international has established himself as an influential figure through his ability to contribute defensively, distribute the ball and support attacking moves.
His presence in midfield provides Sundowns with balance, as he can help protect the defence while also initiating attacks and controlling the tempo of matches.
Cardoso’s explanation suggests that the club is dealing with the continuation of a problem that emerged during Mokoena’s time with the national team rather than an entirely new injury.
Although the coach described the issue as minor, the midfielder’s recovery and readiness to return to action will depend on his condition and the club’s assessment of his fitness.
Sundowns will be keen to ensure that Mokoena recovers properly before returning to competitive football. Managing the injury carefully could help prevent the problem from becoming more serious and affecting his availability for upcoming fixtures.
The midfielder’s importance to both club and country means that his fitness will remain a point of interest for supporters following Cardoso’s latest comments.
For now, the coach’s assessment offers some reassurance, with Cardoso expecting the ligament problem to be overcome in a short period.
