South African midfielder Patrick “Tito” Maswanganyi saw limited minutes as Al Khalidiyah fell to a narrow 1–2 home defeat against Al Wahda in the AFC Champions League Two on Wednesday night. The result leaves the Bahrain side still searching for their first win in the campaign, with a record of two losses and one draw from three matches, and three fixtures remaining to salvage their progress.
Maswanganyi was introduced from the bench and played 19 minutes, earning a match rating of 6.3/10. In that brief spell, he made a positive impact: perfect passing into the final third (2/2), completed his only attempted dribble, and finished with a solid 75% pass accuracy from eight attempts. He won half his ground duels, recovered possession once, and drew one foul — showing flashes of his trademark creativity in a cameo role.
Al Khalidiyah had fought hard to get back on level terms after falling behind just before half-time. They equalised in the 65th minute through Gleison Moreira, but Al Wahda regained the lead 10 minutes later and held on for the win. Maswanganyi’s late arrival offered fresh energy, but he could not find the decisive pass to earn a point.
With three group games still to play, Al Khalidiyah have time to turn their campaign around — and Maswanganyi will hope for more minutes to help make it happen.
