Benni McCarthy is about to walk back into the country where he became a legend, but this time he's wearing the other team's colours. South Africa will host Kenya on Friday, 13 November 2026 at Orlando Amstel Arena in Johannesburg, with kick-off at 6pm. Four days later, the Harambee Stars get their turn at home in Nairobi on Tuesday, 17 November.
The South African Football Association has confirmed the venue, and the whole country is already buzzing. Bafana Bafana come into this window on a high after winning both of their AFCON qualifiers in September, and they're sitting top of Group D. Nobody wants to be the fan who shrugs at a chance to see the team stay on top.
The storyline everyone is talking about is the coaches. McCarthy knows Bafana Bafana inside out because he once wore the jersey and scored goals for them. Now he's on the touchline trying to beat them. On the other side is Pitso Mosimane, who is reportedly back in charge of the national team. Two football minds with plenty of history will be trading tactics, and that kind of rivalry is pure gold for fans.
Kenya won't be easy pickings, either. McCarthy's side will be hungry for a result on the road, and a point or three would make things very interesting before the return leg. With the two games just four days apart, squad rotation and fitness will matter just as much as the starting eleven.
So who's taking the win in Johannesburg, and does Benni McCarthy's return bring Bafana Bafana luck or bad memories? Drop your prediction below and tag the friend who's already planning their Group D bragging rights.
