Orlando Pirates head coach Abdeslam Ouaddou has stressed the importance of strong leadership and proper organisation in football, acknowledging the efforts made by African Stars to prepare for their CAF Champions League encounter despite not having regular league matches.

The Moroccan tactician recognised that African Stars had arranged alternative preparations, including several friendly matches, to keep their players competitive. However, he pointed out that such games cannot fully replace the intensity and demands of regular league fixtures.

Ouaddou also praised the Namibian club’s organisation, noting that the presence of a sizeable technical team reflected their efforts to maintain a professional setup.

The Pirates coach believed his team could gain a physical advantage as the match progressed, provided they maintained their intensity, discipline and defensive structure throughout the contest.

According to Ouaddou, the Buccaneers expected their fitness levels to become increasingly important during the latter stages of the match, potentially giving them an edge over their opponents.

Following the encounter, Pirates will shift their focus to the return leg in South Africa. The Soweto giants will aim to complete the job on home soil and book their place in the CAF Champions League group stages.
