Teboho Mokoena, the Mamelodi Sundowns and Bafana Bafana midfielder, has launched an official Facebook page, and it has reportedly passed 50,000 followers very quickly. According to reports, almost 14,000 people followed the page in its first 24 hours. It kept growing after that, and reports published on 15 October 2026 said it had already gone beyond 50,000.
The numbers suggest that many supporters want to follow the midfielder away from the pitch as well. Mokoena is 29 and has become an important figure in South African football. He is known for his technical skill, his strength, his passing range and his powerful shots from distance. He joined Sundowns from SuperSport United in January 2022 and has played a big part in the club's efforts in both domestic and continental competitions.
His popularity has recently been boosted by Sundowns' MTN8 final win over Orlando Pirates. Mokoena opened the scoring in the first half of the 2-0 victory at Moses Mabhida Stadium in Durban. Iqraam Rayners added a stoppage-time penalty, and the result ended Pirates' bid for a fifth MTN8 title in a row. It was Sundowns' first MTN8 title since 2021. Mokoena had been a doubt for the match because of an injury he picked up on Bafana Bafana duty, and he passed a late fitness test to start.
His time with the national team has also raised his profile, since every international appearance puts him in front of more supporters across the country.
The new page gives Mokoena another way to share news and talk to fans. Many footballers now use social media to build their image and keep a direct link with their followers. Reaching 50,000 followers is not a sporting achievement, but the speed at which it happened shows how much interest there is in his career.
For Sundowns and Bafana Bafana fans, the page offers another way to follow him between matches. The coming weeks will show how far his following on the platform can grow.
I confirmed the MTN8 details through match reports, but I could not find any source for the Facebook follower numbers. Please check them on the page itself, or against the report you took them from, before publishing. I left out the "breaks the internet" framing and the claim that the growth was record-breaking, since neither is supported.
