Former Pirates And Sundowns Star Could Reportedly Become A Free Agent In Shock Transfer Twist

Thembinkosi Lorch Bombshell: Former Pirates And Sundowns Star Could Become A Free Agent After Al-Ittihad Twist

South African football star Thembinkosi Lorch could be heading towards another major career change, with reports suggesting that the former Orlando Pirates and Mamelodi Sundowns attacker is nearing a mutual separation from Libyan club Al-Ittihad Tripoli.

The 33-year-old winger has reportedly fallen out of favour under head coach Faouzi Benzarti and has been absent from the club’s recent league squads. If an agreement is reached to end his contract, Lorch could become available as a free agent in the next transfer window, potentially opening the door to another move in his eventful career.

According to iDiski Times on 20 October 2026, the possibility of a mutual separation is gaining attention as uncertainty continues over the South African international’s future in Libya. However, an official termination of his contract has not been confirmed.

What Went Wrong In Libya?

Lorch joined Al-Ittihad in February 2026 after leaving Moroccan outfit Wydad Athletic Club, where he had enjoyed a memorable spell that included scoring at the expanded FIFA Club World Cup.

His move to Libya offered another opportunity to continue his career outside South Africa. However, his position at Al-Ittihad reportedly became increasingly uncertain following changes in the club’s technical plans and the arrival of new players.

Reports have also pointed to the club’s foreign-player registration limit as a possible factor behind the situation. With competition for places increasing, Lorch has reportedly been left outside Benzarti’s immediate plans.

The latest development could bring his Libyan adventure to an early conclusion, although the final details of any separation remain unclear.

Failed Morocco Move Adds To The Uncertainty

Lorch was previously linked with a return to Morocco, with Maghreb Association Sportive de Fès, commonly known as MAS Fès, reportedly interested in securing his services.

However, discussions failed to produce an agreement over personal terms, according to reports. The financial package involved was understood to be a significant obstacle, leaving the proposed move unresolved.

A possible return to Wydad Casablanca has also been discussed in the media, but no official offer was reported. Clubs in Egypt and Algeria have reportedly shown interest as well, although their involvement remains unconfirmed.

These developments leave Lorch with several possibilities should his contract with Al-Ittihad come to an end.

Could Kaizer Chiefs Make A Move?

Lorch’s uncertain future has naturally sparked speculation about a possible return to the Betway Premiership. Kaizer Chiefs have been mentioned in transfer discussions, with supporters wondering whether the Soweto giants could pursue the experienced attacker.

Nevertheless, there has been no confirmed agreement or official announcement that Chiefs have made an offer for his services.

A return to South Africa would give Lorch an opportunity to compete in familiar surroundings, but any potential move would depend on his contractual situation, financial expectations and the interest of prospective clubs.
