TS Galaxy president Tim Sukazi has revealed that Mamelodi Sundowns reportedly paid R4 million to secure the services of Gomolemo Kekana when the young footballer was just 16 years old.

Speaking during an interview with SNAWA, Sukazi disclosed the reported transfer fee, highlighting the significant financial commitments South African football clubs are prepared to make to recruit promising young players.

The revelation has sparked discussion about the growing value of emerging talent and the strategies used by professional clubs to identify footballers who could become valuable assets in the future.

Paying R4 million for a teenager represents a substantial investment, particularly considering that players at that age are still developing their technical abilities, physical strength and understanding of the game.

Mamelodi Sundowns, one of South Africa's leading football clubs, have continued to pursue talented players as they seek to maintain their competitiveness in domestic and continental competitions. Investing in young footballers can also help clubs build for the future.

However, recruiting teenage players comes with uncertainties, as their development depends on several factors, including coaching, regular playing opportunities, fitness, confidence and exposure to competitive football.

For Sundowns, the challenge will be ensuring that Kekana receives the necessary support and opportunities to fulfil his potential.

Sukazi's revelation has renewed conversations about the financial value of youth recruitment in South African football. Ultimately, the success of such an investment will depend on the player's progress, performances and contribution to the club over time.

The reported transfer fee highlights the increasing importance of identifying and securing promising young talent in the competitive football market.
