Former Orlando Pirates Star Suspended and Fined R4,200 in the USA

Former Orlando Pirates defender Mbekezeli Mbokazi has reportedly received a one-match suspension and a fine of approximately R4,200 after collecting five yellow cards during his Major League Soccer (MLS) campaign with Chicago Fire.

The South African international is set to miss Chicago Fire’s reported Thursday morning clash against Orlando City after reaching the league’s disciplinary threshold. His absence could force the club to make changes to its defensive lineup ahead of the important fixture.

According to the available information, Mbokazi has received three yellow cards in his last four MLS appearances, highlighting a recent disciplinary concern. Under the league’s rules, accumulating five bookings results in an automatic one-match suspension.

In addition to missing the game, the young defender reportedly faces a $250 fine, equivalent to approximately R4,200. The punishment comes as Mbokazi continues adjusting to life in American football following his move from South Africa.

His suspension presents a challenge for Chicago Fire, who will need to identify a suitable replacement and reorganise their defence to maintain stability against Orlando City.

The fixture has also attracted attention amid reports linking Orlando City with French forward Antoine Griezmann, a FIFA World Cup winner. However, the reported details surrounding the potential association should be independently verified.

Mbokazi is reportedly expected to return to action when Chicago Fire face Colorado Rapids on Sunday morning, provided he has no further disciplinary or fitness issues.

For the former Pirates defender, the immediate task will be to serve his suspension and prepare for his return. Although the setback interrupts his progress, he will have another opportunity to demonstrate his defensive abilities and continue developing in the MLS.

South African football supporters will be hoping the young defender learns from the experience and returns ready to make a positive contribution to Chicago Fire’s campaign.
