TS Galaxy chairman Tim Sukazi has showered Orlando Pirates midfielder Thapelo Mokobodi with praise, describing him as a complete footballer who has impressed with his all-round performances.

Mokobodi has caught the attention of football followers with his energy, physical strength, passing skills and ability to contribute in both defence and attack. Sukazi believes Pirates have secured an excellent player, particularly because the midfielder was not widely known before making his move to the Soweto-based club.

Speaking about Mokobodi, Sukazi admitted that he was among those who had underestimated how talented the midfielder was before his performances brought him into the spotlight.

“Thapelo Mokobodi is a complete midfielder signed almost from nowhere,” Sukazi said.

He went on to explain that Pirates had secured a quality player whose abilities had surprised many people, including himself.

“Orlando Pirates have got themselves a proper midfielder in Thapelo Mokobodi, who is on another level. I would say he came almost from nowhere because we really did not know much about this player. I am guilty of that myself, just like everybody else,” Sukazi added.

The TS Galaxy chairman’s remarks highlight how Mokobodi has earned recognition through his performances rather than a long period in the public spotlight. His emergence has also given Pirates supporters another reason to be optimistic about the club’s midfield options.

Sukazi pointed to the midfielder’s movement, strength and ability to distribute the ball accurately as some of his biggest qualities. According to him, Mokobodi covers significant ground and can be difficult for opposing players to track throughout a match.

“His mobility, his strength and the execution of his passes are impressive. He is everywhere, and to track him down and keep up with him, you need extraordinary ability,” he explained.

Sukazi believes teams could struggle to contain Mokobodi if they lack midfielders with the physical ability and energy to match his performances.

Beyond his work going forward, the chairman also highlighted the player’s defensive contribution and ability to connect the different areas of the team. Mokobodi can help protect the defence, carry possession into advanced positions and support attacking movements.

These qualities make him a valuable option in modern football, where midfielders are expected to perform several roles during a match.

Sukazi also praised Orlando Pirates for identifying the midfielder and bringing him into their squad.

“I think Orlando Pirates signed a wonderful player there,” he said.

His comments are likely to increase interest in Mokobodi, who will now be expected to maintain his performances as the season progresses.

For the Buccaneers, having a midfielder capable of winning possession, distributing passes and supporting attacks could prove important as they pursue success in domestic and continental competitions.
