Orlando Pirates have reportedly suffered an injury setback, with promising young striker Will Henson expected to spend approximately six weeks on the sidelines after sustaining a thigh injury while representing South Africa at the COSAFA Cup Under-20 tournament.
The 18-year-old forward, who has been making steady progress through the Buccaneers' development structures, picked up the injury while playing for Amajita. He is now expected to focus on rehabilitation before returning to training and competitive action.
Henson's injury comes at an unfortunate time, as the youngster had been building momentum with his performances at youth level. His impressive goalscoring ability has attracted attention, raising hopes that he could eventually earn an opportunity in the Orlando Pirates senior team.
The young striker previously finished as the leading goalscorer in the Gauteng Development League, earning him the nickname 'Anytime Goalscorer' because of his consistent ability to find the back of the net.
Reports suggest that Henson had been struggling with the thigh problem for approximately two months before the injury worsened during the COSAFA Cup matches. Following a medical assessment, he is reportedly facing around six weeks of recovery.
His absence will also be a setback for the Orlando Pirates reserve side competing in the DStv Diski Challenge, where his attacking contributions could be missed during his rehabilitation period.
Despite the disappointment, ensuring a complete recovery will be crucial for the teenager's long-term development. Returning too early could risk aggravating the injury and delaying his progress further.
Pirates will be hoping Henson responds positively to treatment and returns to action fully fit. At just 18, he has plenty of time to continue developing his talent and work towards securing a place in the club's senior squad.
