According to Kaizer Chiefs defender Reeve Frosler, the Amakhosi should forget about their loss in the CAF Confederation Cup and concentrate on winning the Carling Knockout Cup.
Last Friday, the Chiefs' humiliating penalty shootout loss to the Zambian side Red Arrows sent them crashing out of the continental tournament. Despite a 1-0 victory in the second leg at Moses Mabhida Stadium, which tied the score at 1-1 on aggregate, Amakhosi were unable to advance to the next round.
The giants from Soweto were devastated to lose because they had intended to keep their continental campaign going. Frosler, on the other hand, thinks the squad needs to get back together fast and turn their disappointment into focus for a run at a medal in another tournament.
While addressing the team's elimination from the Confederation Cup, Frosler praised the players' efforts to fight back from a 1-0 down in the first leg but said the result was tough to accept.
He emphasised that the Carling Knockout Cup had taken center stage, since it offered Chiefs a chance to maintain their trophy aspirations right away.
A spot in the quarterfinals is up for grabs when Amakhosi take on TS Galaxy at FNB Stadium on Tuesday at 1pm. While Frosler acknowledges the Rockets' recent performance as formidable opponents, he sees a new opportunity in the knockout format.
If Chiefs want to advance, the defender says they need to be ready to play their best because cup matches usually bring new situations.
For Frosler and the club's fans, bringing home a trophy is paramount. A victory in the Carling Knockout would be a huge confidence booster for the Chiefs, who have been under a lot of pressure to deliver big accolades.
Amakhosi can't afford to waste time worrying about their failure to qualify for the Confederation Cup. Their first order of business is to defeat TS Galaxy and advance in the silverware race.
After losing on the continent, Frosler and his teammates will be looking to bounce back with a strong showing in Tuesday's match and maintain domestic cup chances.
