South African attacker Devin Titus registered an assist, but Maghreb Fes were denied victory after conceding a late equaliser in their 1-1 draw against ASEC Mimosas in the CAF Champions League second preliminary round first leg on Sunday night.
The former Stellenbosch FC winger played a key role in his side's opening goal, setting up Noureddine Oussama to put Maghreb Fes ahead in the encounter.
However, the Moroccan side could not hold on to their advantage, with ASEC Mimosas finding the net deep into stoppage time to leave the tie finely balanced ahead of the return leg.
Bamba Souhalio scored the equaliser in the 93rd minute, dealing a late blow to Maghreb Fes after they had appeared on course to secure an important first-leg victory.
Titus' contribution was nevertheless a positive moment for the South African forward, who continues his career outside the Betway Premiership following his departure from Stellenbosch FC.
The assist also provided a reminder of his attacking qualities on the continental stage, with his involvement helping Maghreb Fes take the lead against their Ivorian opponents.
Despite the disappointment of conceding so late, Maghreb Fes remain in contention to progress to the next round of Africa's premier club competition.
The 1-1 result means both teams will have everything to play for in the second leg, where a place in the next stage of the CAF Champions League will be at stake.
For Titus and his teammates, attention will now turn to the return fixture as they look to convert their first-leg performance into qualification.
The South African attacker will also hope to build on his assist and continue making an impact as Maghreb Fes pursue their continental ambitions.
