Sundowns Give Monnapule Saleng Another Chance as Cardoso Sets Clear Conditions

Mamelodi Sundowns have given Monnapule Saleng another opportunity to revive his career at the club, but head coach Miguel Cardoso has made it clear that the winger must demonstrate consistency and the right attitude to earn more playing time.

Saleng returned to action when he came off the bench during Sundowns' 1-0 victory over Marumo Gallants in the Carling Knockout Cup. His appearance was significant after a difficult period away from the first-team picture, with reported disciplinary issues raising questions about his future at the Tshwane-based club.

Although Sundowns secured an important victory, Saleng's return attracted considerable attention from supporters eager to understand whether he could still play a meaningful role in the team's plans.

Cardoso addressed the situation after the match, explaining that the winger had been given an opportunity to correct his mistakes and demonstrate that he deserved further chances.

"We gave Saleng the opportunity to go over his faults and show consistency," Cardoso explained to the media. "If he becomes consistent, he will have more chances."

The Portuguese coach's comments suggest that Saleng's return does not guarantee regular appearances. Instead, the 28-year-old must prove himself through his performances, training-ground commitment and professional conduct.

For Sundowns, keeping an experienced and talented attacker available could strengthen their options as they compete across multiple competitions. However, the club's intense competition for places means Saleng will need to work hard to establish himself within Cardoso's plans.

The winger has another opportunity to demonstrate the qualities that made him an exciting attacking player. His ability to create opportunities, trouble defenders and contribute in the final third could prove valuable if he regains his confidence and consistency.

Cardoso's message also reinforces the standards expected from every player at Sundowns, regardless of reputation or ability.

Saleng's appearance against Gallants represents a positive step, but the real challenge begins now. He must convince the technical team that he can be trusted consistently.

Supporters will be watching closely to see whether he can turn this opportunity into a fresh beginning at Sundowns.
