From Chiefs to Pirates: 14-Year-Old “Messi” Wonderkid Takes a Huge Step Forward

14-Year-Old Jacob Serman Earns Orlando Pirates DDC Training Opportunity After Leaving Kaizer Chiefs

Fourteen-year-old Jacob Serman is attracting attention in Gauteng football after earning an opportunity to train with Orlando Pirates’ DStv Diski Challenge (DDC) squad. The talented youngster, nicknamed “Messi” because of his impressive technical ability and flair on the ball, is making encouraging progress in his football development.

Serman’s journey has drawn additional interest because he joined the Buccaneers after previously being associated with their fierce Soweto rivals, Kaizer Chiefs. His move between the two clubs has added another interesting chapter to the rivalry between South Africa’s most popular football teams, particularly as supporters continue to follow the development of promising young players.

Last season, the young attacker featured for Orlando Pirates in the RCLFA Premier League, which forms part of the fifth tier of South African football. His performances at that level reportedly demonstrated the creativity, ball control and attacking instincts that have earned him his nickname.

Training with the DDC squad represents an important step forward for Serman, giving him an opportunity to experience a more competitive environment and work alongside some of the club’s promising young footballers. The exposure could help him improve his understanding of the game, tactical awareness and ability to compete against stronger opposition.

However, the teenager still has considerable development ahead of him. At just 14, patience and consistent guidance will be important as he continues learning and adapting to the demands of higher-level football.

For Orlando Pirates, opportunities such as these form part of the broader process of identifying and developing young talent for the future. Serman’s progress will therefore be worth monitoring as he seeks to make the most of his opportunity.

Although training with the DDC squad does not guarantee promotion or a place in the matchday team, it represents an encouraging milestone in his young career.

With his football journey only beginning, Serman will be hoping to continue impressing and eventually establish himself at a higher level of the game.
