Jimmy Tau and Wife Thabile Ngwato Reportedly Expecting Their First Child

Former Kaizer Chiefs captain and Bafana Bafana international Jimmy Tau is reportedly preparing to embrace a new chapter in his personal life, with reports suggesting that he and his wife, Thabile Ngwato, are expecting their first child together.

The 46-year-old retired footballer, who successfully transitioned into television punditry after hanging up his boots, is celebrating what could be one of the most significant milestones of his life away from the football pitch.

According to a report published by South African entertainment publication Briefly on Monday, Tau and his wife are preparing to welcome their first child. Ngwato is a prominent businesswoman who serves as co-founder and chief executive officer of Newzroom Afrika and the Ngwato Nkosi Group.

The reported pregnancy has attracted attention because the couple generally keeps their personal lives away from the public spotlight. Ngwato, in particular, is known for maintaining a relatively private lifestyle despite her influential position in South Africa's media industry.

The couple reportedly tied the knot in an intimate traditional wedding ceremony in May 2025. Their relationship has continued to attract interest, partly because of the ten-year age difference between the retired footballer and his businesswoman wife.

Before settling down with Ngwato, Tau was previously linked to other women, including Tsholofelo Mhlongo and Sizakele Manonga. However, he has since entered a new chapter of his life with his wife.

On the football side, Tau enjoyed a distinguished career, captaining Kaizer Chiefs and representing several clubs, including Orlando Pirates. His experience and knowledge of the game have also helped him establish himself as a football analyst on SuperSport TV.

While his playing days are behind him, the former defender continues to contribute to South African football through punditry.

If the reports are confirmed, welcoming their first child would mark another important milestone for Tau and Ngwato as they continue building their life together.
