Kaizer Chiefs youngster Steve Mendes is reportedly working hard behind the scenes as he looks to fulfil his dream of earning promotion to the club’s senior team. The promising development player has allegedly been spotted conducting individual training sessions in an effort to improve his game and strengthen his chances of making the step up.

Mendes is currently part of the group of talented youngsters hoping to progress from the Kaizer Chiefs DStv Diski Challenge (DDC) team to the senior squad. For academy players, securing a place in the first team represents a major career milestone that requires dedication, discipline and consistent improvement.

His reported decision to train on his own highlights his determination to develop his abilities beyond regular team sessions. Extra training can help young footballers improve important areas of their game, including fitness, ball control, passing, finishing and overall technical ability.

However, individual training alone does not guarantee a place in the senior squad. Mendes will still need to prove himself in competitive matches and demonstrate to the club’s technical team that he is ready to handle the demands of professional football at the highest level.

Coaches typically assess several factors when considering young players for promotion, including consistency, tactical awareness, physical strength, decision-making and the ability to perform under pressure. Mendes will therefore need to maintain his progress and deliver strong performances whenever opportunities arise.

Kaizer Chiefs have a development structure aimed at preparing talented youngsters for potential first-team opportunities. However, competition for places remains fierce, particularly when experienced players are already occupying positions that emerging talents hope to secure.

For Mendes, the next step will be to translate his hard work into consistent performances for the DDC side. Impressive displays could help him attract the attention of the senior coaching staff and improve his chances of being considered for promotion.

Chiefs supporters will be keen to follow his progress as he continues pursuing his ambition. The club’s academy remains an important pathway for developing future stars, and fans will hope to see promising youngsters like Mendes eventually establish themselves in the senior team.

Although his reported extra training suggests a strong desire to succeed, whether he earns promotion will ultimately depend on his performances, development and the technical team's assessment of his readiness.
