Former Orlando Pirates assistant coach Benson Mhlongo believes Mandla Ncikazi could return to the Soweto giants in the future, despite his departure from the club.
Mhlongo has expressed confidence that Ncikazi’s exit does not necessarily mean the end of his relationship with the Buccaneers. According to the former Pirates assistant coach, Ncikazi’s experience and connection with the club could create an opportunity for him to return one day.
“ Ncikazi will come back to coach Pirates one day,” Mhlongo said.
Ncikazi previously worked as part of Orlando Pirates’ technical team, contributing to the club’s efforts to compete for honours in South African football. His time at the Soweto club exposed him to an environment where expectations are high and coaches are under constant pressure to deliver positive results.
Orlando Pirates remain one of South Africa’s biggest football clubs, boasting a large supporter base and a proud history of competing for major trophies. Anyone involved in the club’s technical team must deal with the pressure that comes with its ambitions and the demands of its supporters.
Mhlongo’s comments suggest that he does not view Ncikazi’s departure as a permanent separation from the Buccaneers. His confidence in the coach’s possible return appears to be based on Ncikazi’s previous experience at the club and his knowledge of South African football.
However, there has been no confirmation that Pirates are planning to bring Ncikazi back. Any potential reunion would depend on the club’s future coaching needs, its technical direction and whether both parties were interested in working together again.
Although football clubs regularly make changes to their coaching structures, former coaches can sometimes return when circumstances change. For Pirates supporters, Mhlongo’s prediction could spark debate about Ncikazi’s future and the possibility of another chapter with the Soweto giants.
