Kaizer Chiefs Fail To Agree Personal Terms With Thembinkosi Lorch

Former Mamelodi Sundowns and Orlando Pirates star Thembinkosi Lorch could be available as a free agent in the next transfer window after reports suggested that he could be heading for a departure from Libyan club Al Ittihad.

The 33-year-old winger has been notably absent from Al Ittihad’s recent league squads under head coach Fouazi Benzarti, raising questions about his future at the club. Reports have suggested that the two parties could be moving towards a mutual separation after a difficult period.

Lorch was linked with a move to Moroccan club Mas Fes, the reigning Botola Pro champions, during the previous transfer window. The club has also strengthened its squad by signing South African forwards Tshegofatso Mabasa and Devin Titus. However, Lorch and Mas Fes reportedly failed to reach an agreement on personal terms, preventing the move from happening.

There have also been reports of interest in the experienced winger from clubs in Egypt and Algeria. Lorch joined Al Ittihad from Wydad Athletic Club shortly before Rulani Mokwena’s appointment at the Libyan side.

Mokwena and Al Ittihad later parted ways after the club failed to qualify for the CAF Champions League. The former Mamelodi Sundowns coach has since taken charge of Egyptian Premier League outfit Pyramids FC, where he enjoyed an impressive start by winning his first 10 games in charge.

Lorch was also linked with a return to Wydad, where he experienced a career revival under Mokwena and became one of two South African players to score at the expanded FIFA Club World Cup. However, the Moroccan club did not make an official offer for his services, leaving the possibility of a move to Mas Fes open until negotiations broke down.

Meanwhile, Talks between Kaizer Chiefs and former Mamelodi Sundowns and Orlando Pirates star Thembinkosi Lorch have reportedly collapsed over salary demands. Lorch requested a monthly salary of R450 000 during discussions with Amakhosi, but the club was unwilling to meet his expectations. Chiefs failed to match his R450 000 salary demand and will now explore other options to strengthen their squad ahead of the new season.

With his future at Al Ittihad uncertain and his proposed move to Morocco falling through, Lorch could have several decisions to make before the next transfer window closes. His experience in South African and North African football could attract interest from other clubs looking to strengthen their attacking options.
