Kaizer Chiefs defender Reeve Frosler believes the club’s senior players must learn from the young talents representing South Africa at under-20 and under-23 level. The experienced right-back has challenged himself and his teammates to improve their performances and earn opportunities to represent Bafana Bafana.
Chiefs have been well represented in South Africa’s junior national teams, with several young players getting the chance to wear the national colours. However, the Soweto giants have had fewer players featuring regularly in the senior national team.
Frosler believes the progress made by the younger players should motivate the senior members of the Chiefs squad to work harder and improve their performances. He feels the responsibility lies with the experienced players to raise their standards and compete for places in the national team.
The defender was asked about the difference between Chiefs’ representation in the junior national teams and the senior side. In response, he explained that the senior players should look at what the youngsters are achieving and use it as inspiration.
“I think that’s for us senior team players to look at them and say, if our junior teams are being able to do it,” Frosler said.
“We can learn something from our junior teams, and we have to try to do better and get into the national team ourselves.”
Frosler’s comments show that he remains determined to earn a place in Bafana Bafana. He also wants his teammates to approach the challenge with the same ambition and commitment.
The Chiefs right-back welcomed the emergence of the club’s young talents, saying their progress is a positive sign for the future of the team. Rather than seeing their success as a threat, he believes the senior players should support their development and learn from their achievements.
“It’s positive for us, seeing these young talents coming through, and hopefully they can continue growing and hopefully take over in the first team as well,” he added.
Chiefs have a long history of developing young footballers, and the continued progress of their junior players could provide more options for the first team in the coming seasons. Their development could also help strengthen the club’s contribution to South African football.
However, Frosler believes the senior players must also take responsibility for their own progress. Consistent performances at club level will be important if they want to attract the attention of the Bafana Bafana selectors.
His message is clear: the success of the younger generation should encourage the senior players to work harder, improve their performances and compete for places in the national team.
