Mourinho Sends Strong Message After Real Madrid’s El Clásico Triumph: ‘We Play to Win Championships’

Mourinho Sends Strong Message After El Clásico Victory as Real Madrid Coach Highlights Dressing-Room Unity

José Mourinho has delivered a powerful message following Real Madrid’s impressive 2-1 victory over Barcelona at Camp Nou, insisting that the Spanish giants are not simply playing to win individual matches but are determined to compete for major honours this season.

The Portuguese tactician, who returned to the Real Madrid dugout for a second spell, praised his players for their discipline, determination and collective commitment after a memorable El Clásico encounter on Sunday, October 25, 2026.

Although defeating Barcelona away from home represents a significant achievement, Mourinho was quick to remind his squad that the result would only matter if they maintained their winning momentum throughout the campaign.

“Real Madrid doesn’t play to win at Camp Nou. Real Madrid plays to win championships,” Mourinho explained, emphasising that the club's ultimate objective remains winning trophies rather than celebrating isolated victories.

His comments reflected the mentality expected at one of the biggest football clubs in the world, where success is measured by silverware and consistency across an entire season.

The victory was particularly important for Real Madrid because it reduced the gap between the two Spanish giants in the La Liga title race to three points. It also provided a significant boost to the team's confidence after earlier difficulties.

Mourinho praised his players for remaining organised and composed against a Barcelona side known for its intense pressing and attacking quality. He highlighted their courage in building attacks from the back and their ability to remain focused when the opposition attempted to fight its way back into the contest.

Beyond the result, however, the Real Madrid manager was particularly pleased with the atmosphere inside the dressing room.

“The group is very strong, internally with zero problems and growing empathy among everyone. Those who are not playing always support those who are,” Mourinho said.

The statement highlighted the importance he places on unity, particularly when managing a squad filled with talented players competing for limited starting positions.

Mourinho also made it clear that no player should consider himself guaranteed a place in the starting eleven. According to the coach, every member of the squad must remain prepared to contribute whenever called upon.

He believes that the willingness of substitutes to support their teammates is an important foundation for building a successful team capable of competing for major trophies.

Despite the celebrations following the Barcelona victory, Mourinho warned against complacency. He stressed that his players must return to training with the same determination and concentration that helped them secure the important three points.

For Real Madrid supporters, the message is encouraging. The victory demonstrated the team's potential, while Mourinho's comments suggested that the manager is working to establish a strong collective mentality.

With the La Liga title race continuing to develop, Real Madrid must now prove that their El Clásico triumph can become the foundation for a consistent championship challenge.
