Kaizer Chiefs head coach Fernando da Cruz believes his side should have secured a comfortable victory over Red Arrows after their CAF Confederation Cup campaign ended in a penalty shootout defeat.
The Soweto giants reportedly controlled much of the encounter and created several opportunities to score. However, their inability to convert those chances into goals ultimately proved costly, leaving their continental ambitions in tatters.
Da Cruz expressed disappointment with the outcome, arguing that Chiefs had produced enough attacking opportunities to win the match convincingly during normal time.
“We dominated all the game, we created a lot of chances,” the French coach said, as quoted by iDiski Times.
“We lost the game on penalties, but we actually lost it before because we created a lot of chances.
“We only scored one goal, normally we must win this game 3-0 or 4-0.”
His remarks highlighted the finishing problems that undermined Chiefs despite their attacking efforts. While the team managed to find the net once, they failed to capitalise on several other opportunities that could have put the contest beyond Red Arrows.
The elimination will be a setback for Chiefs, who had hoped to progress further in continental competition.
Da Cruz and his technical team must now focus on improving the team’s efficiency in front of goal while maintaining the attacking approach that generated opportunities against the Zambian side.
Chiefs will turn their attention to domestic competitions, with supporters hoping the team can learn from the disappointing exit and deliver stronger performances in their remaining fixtures.
