Mochudi Centre Chiefs Rise Under Former Kaizer Chiefs Star Yeye

Former Kaizer Chiefs and Bafana Bafana midfielder Reneilwe Letsholonyane continued his positive start as head coach of Mochudi Centre Chiefs after guiding the Botswana Premier League side to a second consecutive victory on Saturday.

Mochudi Centre Chiefs defeated Enesia FC 2-1 away from home to collect three important points and improve their position on the league table. The result marked their third victory of the season after six matches, having also recorded two defeats and one draw.

Letsholonyane, popularly known as Yeye, was appointed as the club’s head coach in September after leaving his assistant coaching position at Zimbabwean side FC Platinum, where he worked alongside fellow South African coach Thabo Senong.

The former SuperSport United midfielder has now started making progress in Botswana as he looks to establish himself in coaching following his successful playing career. His latest victory comes after he guided Mochudi Centre Chiefs to a 2-1 win over Township Rollers in their previous match.

Although his team suffered a 2-0 defeat against Tafic in his first match in charge, Letsholonyane has responded well by securing two consecutive victories. These results have helped the team improve its position and build confidence as the league campaign continues.

The victory over Enesia lifted Mochudi Centre Chiefs into fourth place with 10 points. They are now four points behind league leaders Tonata FC, putting them in a better position to challenge the teams above them.

Mochudi Centre Chiefs took the lead shortly before half-time when Nicolas Melgarejo found the back of the net in the 42nd minute. The goal gave the visitors an advantage going into the break and provided a strong foundation for their second-half performance.

The visitors continued to push forward after the restart and doubled their lead in the 68th minute through Ronaldo Fortune. His goal put Letsholonyane’s team in a comfortable position as they moved closer to securing all three points.

However, Enesia FC made the closing stages more difficult after Thapelo Thebeyagae scored in the 85th minute to reduce the deficit. The late goal gave the home side hope of finding an equaliser, but Mochudi Centre Chiefs managed to protect their advantage until the final whistle.

Letsholonyane previously coached Matebele FC in Botswana, where he helped the team retain its place in the top flight. His work at the club also earned him a nomination for the Coach of the Season award.

The latest victory represents another positive step for the former Bafana Bafana international as he continues his coaching journey outside South Africa. With Mochudi Centre Chiefs now sitting fourth on the table, he will hope to maintain their improved form and close the gap on the league leaders in the coming matches.
