Arsenal capitalized on Manchester City’s loss to Aston Villa by defeating Everton 2-0 at the Emirates Stadium on Saturday, allowing them to equalize in points with the Premier League leaders.
The Gunners exhibited a disciplined performance, earning three crucial points that extended their winning streak in the league and solidified their status in the title chase. Earlier in the day, City faced a 2-1 defeat at Villa Park, presenting Mikel Arteta’s team with the chance to catch up at the top.
Arsenal started strong, scoring the opener in the seventh minute with a goal from Ezri Konsa. The defender reacted quickly during a scramble in Everton’s penalty area following a corner kick, marking his first goal for the club and giving the hosts an early lead.
While Everton attempted to respond, Arsenal maintained their offensive pressure and kept the visitors' defense under strain. Goalkeeper David Raya made several vital saves, including a key stop against Thierno Barry before halftime.
After the break, the hosts upheld their lead and finally doubled it in the 68th minute. Gabriel Magalhães, celebrating his 200th Premier League appearance, scored with a header from a well-placed cross by Ben White, allowing Arsenal to create some breathing room.
Everton sought to find a way back into the game in the final moments, but Arsenal's defense held strong, ensuring a clean sheet and securing the win.
This result brought Arsenal to 21 points after eight league games, putting them level with Manchester City at the top, although City still led on goal difference after suffering their first league defeat of the season.
Looking ahead, Arsenal aims to keep their momentum going in the Premier League title race, while City will seek to bounce back after dropping points against Aston Villa.
