AmaZulu head coach Arthur Zwane has addressed speculation linking him to a possible role in Pitso Mosimane’s Bafana Bafana technical team, insisting that he is enjoying his current challenge at Usuthu and is not in a hurry to leave.
The rumours emerged earlier this week, with reports suggesting that AmaZulu had begun considering replacements should Zwane depart. Orlando Pirates assistant coach Mandla Ncikazi was reportedly among the potential candidates.
Speaking to the media on the sidelines of the 2026 Carling Knockout last-16 draw, Zwane reflected on his move to AmaZulu and the relationship he has built with the club’s leadership, supporters and players.
The former Kaizer Chiefs coach spent 24 years at the Soweto giants, making his departure a significant career decision. He revealed that loyalty played an important role when AmaZulu president Sandile Zungu approached him.
“When I got a call from the President, the first thing I said was, ‘President, I’m willing to join, but please contact the Chairman, and if the Chairman agrees, I’m on board’,” Zwane explained.
He said Zungu’s vision for AmaZulu convinced him that he was the right person to help drive the project forward, alongside coach Kanu at the time.
Although the team initially struggled to find consistency, Zwane believes the experience allowed both the players and coaching staff to grow.
“As much as we started very slow, we were shaking, but we grew in stature,” he said, crediting the club’s leadership for giving them the freedom to develop and understand the environment.
Zwane also praised the support he has received from the club’s management, board, chief executive and supporters, describing it as exceptional.
That backing, he suggested, would make any potential departure difficult.
“It’s not going to be an easy decision for me to just say tomorrow I want to move,” he said, adding that only time would reveal what the future holds.
For now, Zwane appears focused on continuing his work at AmaZulu, describing his appointment as the challenge he needed in his coaching career.
This is a challenge I needed as a coach, he said.
While Zwane has neither confirmed nor ruled out a possible move to Bafana Bafana, his latest comments suggest that he remains committed to the project at AmaZulu as speculation over his future continues.
