Kylian Mbappe produced a match-winning display as Real Madrid secured a 2-1 victory over Barcelona at Camp Nou on Sunday, October 25, 2026, bringing their rivals’ impressive winning run in LaLiga to an end.
The French forward scored both goals for Madrid in a fiercely contested El Clasico, handing Barcelona their first league defeat of the season. The result also strengthened Real Madrid’s position in the race for the Spanish league title.
Madrid took the lead in the 41st minute when Mbappe capitalised on a defensive mistake. The visitors launched an attack from the left flank, with Yan Diomande sending a cross into Barcelona’s penalty area. Defender Gerard Martin failed to deal with the delivery effectively, allowing the ball to hit Mbappe and bounce into the net.
Barcelona attempted to restore parity before half-time, but Lamine Yamal was unable to convert a promising opportunity. The young winger struggled to influence the contest as Madrid maintained their advantage heading into the interval.
The home side returned from the break with renewed energy and eventually found an equaliser in the 61st minute. Brazilian forward Raphinha finished a well-worked move after receiving an intelligent pass from Pedri, bringing Barcelona back into the match and raising hopes of a comeback.
However, Real Madrid continued to threaten whenever opportunities arose. Their persistence paid off in the 88th minute when Eduardo Camavinga advanced during a quick attacking move and delivered the ball across the penalty area. Mbappe positioned himself perfectly and finished into the unguarded net to secure all three points for his team.
The brace took Mbappe’s LaLiga tally to 11 goals in 10 appearances. He also reached the milestone of 100 goals for Real Madrid, further highlighting his importance to the club.
Barcelona’s defeat ended their nine-match winning streak in the league. Despite the setback, they remained top of the standings with 27 points, while Real Madrid climbed to 24 points, reducing the difference between the rivals to three.
Although Mbappe attracted much of the attention, Madrid’s collective performance proved crucial. Their discipline, efficiency in attack and ability to capitalise on Barcelona’s defensive mistakes ultimately made the difference.
