Darian Wilken, a former member of the technical team at Orlando Pirates, is now a part of the coaching staff at Young Africans SC in Tanzania, where he has reconnected with South African coach Fadlu Davids.

This news arrives as Davids, newly appointed head coach of the Tanzanian club, is busy putting together his technical staff. After a brief stint in charge, 45-year-old tactician Manqoba Mngqithi stepped down, and his compatriot was replaced.

Davids has brought Wilken and other familiar faces to Dar es Salaam to prepare for his new challenge. His history with the South African coach includes stints with Simba SC and Raja Casablanca, two of Morocco's most illustrious clubs.

The former Orlando Pirates assistant coach has a wealth of knowledge from his tenure with the Soweto giants, where he assisted Josef Zinnbauer, Milutin Sredojevic, and Rulani Mokwena, among other famous coaches.

As Young Africans strive to retain its position among Tanzania’s top football teams, his return to Davids is anticipated to bolster the club’s technical structure.

The new technical setup also includes performance analyst Mueez Kajee, who was Davids's colleague in past coaching roles. On November 7, 2026, the newly appointed head coach and the two players arrived in Tanzania.

As Davids implements his preferred organizational structure, the club is anticipating the continued presence of South African coach Simo Dladla, a member of Mngqithi's technical staff.

After managing Yanga's bitter rivals, Simba SC, Davids is making a triumphant return to Tanzanian football. As a coach for Simba, he became well-known in East African football and led the club to a CAF Confederation Cup final. He was from South Africa.

Being hired by Young Africans gives him the chance to show off his coaching skills once again. The club is aiming for domestic glory and a good showing in the CAF Champions League.

Because Yanga are aiming to catch up to Simba SC, who are currently leading the league, Davids' immediate task is of utmost importance.
