Pirates Could Miss In-Form Star for Soweto Derby Against Chiefs

Orlando Pirates Sweat Over Kamogelo Sebelebele’s Fitness Ahead of Soweto Derby

Orlando Pirates have reportedly suffered a potential setback ahead of their highly anticipated Soweto Derby against Kaizer Chiefs on October 31, with right-back Kamogelo Sebelebele struggling to recover from a hamstring injury.

The Buccaneers are preparing for one of the biggest fixtures on the South African football calendar, but uncertainty surrounding Sebelebele’s availability has raised concerns for head coach Abdeslam Ouaddou and his technical team.

The defender has reportedly missed Pirates’ last two matches because of the injury, leaving questions about whether he will regain full fitness in time for the crucial encounter against their Soweto rivals.

Sebelebele has become an important member of the Pirates squad, contributing to the team’s defensive structure and providing support during attacking moves. His potential absence could force Ouaddou to reconsider his tactical approach for a match in which every detail could prove decisive.

There is, however, some encouraging news for the Buccaneers, with the latest injury update suggesting that Sebelebele is expected to resume training this week. While the development offers hope to Pirates supporters, it remains unclear whether he will be fit enough to participate in the derby.

The defender’s return to training would mark an important step in his recovery, but the club’s medical team will need to assess his condition before clearing him for competitive action. Hamstring injuries require careful management, as rushing a player back too early can increase the risk of aggravating the problem.

Should Sebelebele fail to recover in time, Ouaddou will have to consider alternative options at right-back against Kaizer Chiefs.

The Soweto Derby is traditionally fiercely contested, with both teams desperate to secure victory and bragging rights. Pirates will therefore be hoping their defender makes sufficient progress to strengthen their options ahead of the encounter.

For now, Sebelebele’s availability remains uncertain, and his recovery over the coming days could prove crucial to Pirates’ preparations for the October 31 showdown.
