Sekhukhune United head coach Papi Zothwane is determined to use his experience as a former Premier Soccer League (PSL) and Bafana Bafana player to inspire young footballers and help them reach greater heights in their careers.

Having played at the highest level of South African football, Zothwane believes he has valuable knowledge to share with his players. His main objective is to ensure they achieve opportunities that he and some of his former teammates could not fully realise during their playing careers.

The coach acknowledges that some of his current players were not even born when he was still playing professionally. However, he believes the experienced members of his squad can help the younger generation understand the quality of football he once displayed.

Speaking to iDiski Times, Zothwane explained that he does not want to focus on his personal achievements but instead hopes to develop players who can surpass him and other former stars, including Paulus and Teko.

His ambitions extend beyond club football. He wants to see his players earn Bafana Bafana call-ups, improve their families' lives and secure opportunities to play overseas. He pointed to Relebohile Mofokeng as an example of a young South African talent who has made significant progress.

Zothwane also believes that being coached by former professional footballers can motivate young players because their mentors understand the demands of the game.

However, he emphasised that the responsibility ultimately lies with the players to apply the lessons learned during training.

Although Sekhukhune United have not yet reached the level he desires, Zothwane is encouraged by the squad's positive response to his methods and believes the team is gradually progressing towards its goals.
