Pitso Mosimane Fined Bafana Bafana Player for Eating Amagwinya, Former Player Reveals

Former Bafana Bafana international has revealed an unusual disciplinary incident involving highly respected South African football coach Pitso Mosimane, claiming that the experienced tactician once fined a player for eating amagwinya.

The surprising revelation reportedly emerged during the latest episode of Locker Room Secrets, where the former international spoke to KickOff about some of the strict and unexpected rules Mosimane introduced during his coaching career.

According to the account, Mosimane was particularly strict about his players' diets and fitness levels, with the former Mamelodi Sundowns and Al Ahly coach allegedly taking disciplinary action against a player who was caught eating amagwinya, a popular South African fried dough snack.

Although amagwinya remains a favourite among many South Africans, the incident reportedly demonstrated how seriously Mosimane approached nutrition and physical conditioning. The coach believed that maintaining the right fitness levels and eating habits was an important part of preparing players for demanding football competitions.

However, the identity of the player involved and the exact amount of money he was reportedly fined were not disclosed in the account.

Mosimane is widely regarded as one of Africa's most successful football coaches, having built an impressive reputation through his achievements with Mamelodi Sundowns and Egyptian giants Al Ahly.

During his time at Sundowns, he guided the Pretoria-based club to several domestic honours, including the CAF Champions League title in 2016. He later enjoyed further continental success with Al Ahly, winning the CAF Champions League twice in 2020 and 2021.

His coaching philosophy has consistently emphasised discipline, hard work, tactical organisation and physical preparation. The latest revelation offers another glimpse into the demanding environment he created for his players.

While some supporters might consider fining a footballer for eating amagwinya excessive, the incident highlights the importance Mosimane placed on maintaining professional standards.

It also reinforces his reputation as a demanding coach who expects players to remain disciplined both on and off the pitch.
