Manchester City’s disappointing Premier League campaign took another difficult turn on Saturday after Nottingham Forest handed them a 3-1 defeat, leaving Pep Guardiola’s side with three consecutive league losses and pushing Manchester United into the relegation zone.
The result at the City Ground gave Forest an important victory, with the home side taking control early in the encounter. They opened the scoring in the sixth minute after Cunha dispossessed Josko Gvardiol, advanced towards the penalty area and beat Gianluigi Donnarumma with a composed finish.
Forest doubled their advantage in the 18th minute when Liam Delap found space through the City defence before scoring. The visitors responded after the break, with Rayan Cherki producing an excellent volley in the 52nd minute to reduce the deficit.
However, Forest restored their two-goal cushion in the 73rd minute, with Delap completing his brace after receiving a pass from Morgan Gibbs-White and firing the ball into the net off the upright.
Elsewhere, Arsenal strengthened their position at the top of the table with a narrow 1-0 victory over Hull City. The Gunners struggled to break down their opponents in the first half, but captain Martin Odegaard eventually made the difference with a close-range finish in the 72nd minute. The victory moved Arsenal six points clear at the summit ahead of the international break.
Leeds United also celebrated an important result after ending their five-match winless run with a 1-0 victory over Tottenham Hotspur at Elland Road. Noah Okafor scored the decisive goal in the 79th minute, ending Tottenham’s run of three consecutive victories under Roberto De Zerbi.
At Craven Cottage, Fulham and Newcastle United shared the points in a 1-1 draw. Newcastle thought they had taken the lead through Dan Burn in the 33rd minute, but VAR ruled out the effort for a foul in the build-up.
Jacob Murphy eventually put the visitors ahead in the 80th minute with a left-footed strike. Fulham responded through Rodrigo Muniz, whose clever finish restored parity.
The results left Arsenal in control at the top, while Manchester City’s defeat added further pressure to the Premier League race and pushed Manchester United into the bottom three.
