Kylian Mbappe delivered a decisive performance as Real Madrid defeated Barcelona 2-1 at Camp Nou on Sunday, October 25, 2026, to end their rivals’ perfect start to the LaLiga season.
The French superstar scored twice to help Real Madrid claim all three points in the first El Clasico of the campaign. The victory ended Barcelona’s run of nine consecutive league wins and strengthened Madrid’s position in the title race.
Mbappe opened the scoring in the 41st minute after Real Madrid created an opportunity down the left side. Yan Diomande delivered a cross into the penalty area, but Barcelona defender Gerard Martin failed to clear the ball properly. It struck Mbappe and bounced into the net, giving the visitors the lead.
Barcelona had opportunities to respond before the break, but Lamine Yamal missed a promising chance to equalise. The young winger, who is one of Barcelona’s most important attacking players, struggled to make the decisive impact his team needed during the contest.
Despite trailing at half-time, Barcelona returned with greater determination after the break. Their efforts eventually paid off in the 61st minute when Raphinha found the back of the net to bring the hosts level.
The Brazilian forward finished confidently after receiving a clever pass from Pedri, giving Barcelona renewed hope of completing a comeback in front of their home supporters.
However, Real Madrid remained dangerous on the counterattack and continued searching for another goal. With the match approaching its conclusion, Mbappe stepped forward once again to deliver the decisive moment.
In the 88th minute, Eduardo Camavinga drove forward during a quick attacking move before sending the ball across the penalty area. Mbappe was perfectly positioned to finish into the unguarded net, restoring Madrid’s lead and securing a memorable victory.
His brace took his LaLiga tally to 11 goals in 10 appearances, underlining his importance to Real Madrid’s attacking ambitions. He also reached 100 goals for the Spanish giants, making the night even more special for the French international.
The defeat was a significant setback for Barcelona, who had won their opening nine league matches and hoped to extend that run. Instead, they suffered their first domestic league loss of the campaign.
Real Madrid’s victory also reduced the gap between the two rivals to three points. Barcelona remained top of the standings with 27 points, while Madrid moved to 24 points.
Although the headline may focus on Mbappe’s performance against Yamal, the result was ultimately a team achievement. Madrid showed discipline, attacking quality and composure when it mattered most.
For Mbappe, however, the El Clasico victory provided another opportunity to demonstrate why he remains one of the most dangerous forwards in world football.
