I Never Saw It Coming Doctor Khumalo Opens Up About His New SAFA Role

Kaizer Chiefs legend Doctor Khumalo has expressed his surprise at his latest appointment at the South African Football Association (SAFA), admitting that he never expected the opportunity to come his way.

The former Bafana Bafana star, widely regarded as one of South Africa’s greatest footballers, is preparing to embrace a new challenge in his football journey following his appointment to a role within SAFA.

Known for his outstanding contribution to South African football, Khumalo has enjoyed an illustrious career both on and off the pitch. His technical ability, leadership and deep understanding of the game have earned him respect among supporters, former teammates and football enthusiasts across the country.

However, despite his legendary status, the 59-year-old's latest appointment appears to have taken him by surprise.

Reflecting on the development, Khumalo admitted: “I never saw it coming.” His emotional reaction highlights how unexpected opportunities can emerge even for individuals who have already achieved so much in their professional careers.

Following the announcement, the Amakhosi icon reportedly made a special visit to a familiar face to seek blessings as he prepares to take on his new responsibilities.

The gesture reflects the importance of humility, gratitude and spiritual guidance as Khumalo begins this new chapter. For someone who has spent decades representing South African football at the highest level, the appointment represents another opportunity to contribute to the development of the sport beyond his playing days.
