Tshepang Moremi's double sparks Orlando Pirates' 3-0 Carling Knockout win despite injuries

Orlando Pirates secured a comfortable victory over Milford FC in the Carling Knockout Cup last 16, demonstrating a strong performance that reinforces their ambitions of defending their title.

The match, played on Tuesday in Orlando, concluded with a decisive 3-0 scoreline, a result that highlighted the team’s continued momentum following their recent CAF Champions League qualification.

Coach Abdeslam Ouaddou made notable changes to the starting eleven, opting for a lineup featuring Ghampani Lungu and Deon Hotto in place of Simphiwe Masilela and Nkosikhona Ndaba.

This tactical shift appeared to pay dividends, as Tshepang Moremi quickly established himself as a key figure in the Buccaneers’ attack.

Moremi’s two goals and one assist underscored his growing influence and contributed significantly to the team’s dominant display.

The opening minutes of the match saw Pirates immediately assert their control, creating several early opportunities.

While Lungu’s initial attempt was saved by the Milford goalkeeper, and Moremi’s shot narrowly missed the target, the pressure continued to mount.

Thapelo Mokobodi capitalized on this sustained attack in the 15th minute, scoring the first goal and setting the tone for the remainder of the game.

The second goal, scored by Moremi himself in the 33rd minute, showcased his skill and composure, rounding the goalkeeper to slot the ball into the net.

This was followed by a timely substitution in the 39th minute, bringing Mpho Padime onto the field to replace the injured Lungu, who immediately contributed with an assist to Moremi’s brace in injury time, effectively sealing the victory.

Throughout the second half, despite Milford’s attempts to mount a comeback, Pirates maintained their defensive solidity and continued to probe for further opportunities.

While Milford managed to register a few shots on target, they were easily dealt with by the Pirates’ goalkeeper, Sipho Chaine.

The strategic substitutions made by Coach Ouaddou allowed for a more relaxed approach towards the end of the match, with several key players being rested.

Ultimately, the victory showcased the depth and quality within the Orlando Pirates squad.

Moremi’s performance, in particular, suggests that he is rapidly becoming a pivotal player for the club, and the team’s success in the Carling Knockout Cup will undoubtedly bolster their confidence as they continue their campaign.

The result clearly indicates that Orlando Pirates are serious contenders and will be a force to be reckoned with as they progress through the tournament.
